This update notice contains the latest information about changes and enchancements to our graphics software products. Please read the information below thoroughly for trouble-free installation and operation of our graphics products.
The SuperMac Graphics Software disk contains all the files needed to use the features of the SuperMac graphics card with either Apple’s System 6.0.7 or System 7.0.
Installation
Remove all old copies of SuperVideo and the Accelerator CDEV before installing a new version of SuperVideo from the Graphics Software disk. Install the appropriate files from the Graphics Software disk by dragging them into the Macintosh System folder. For System 7.0, you will be asked if it is OK to place SuperVideo into the Control Panels Folder. Please click on the OK button
Note: All screen shots used in this document were taken from SuperVideo 2.49 using the screen capture utility built into System 7.0. SuperVideo screens will look slightly different when used with System 6.07.
SuperVideo and SuperMac Thunder Graphics Cards
SuperVideo includes controls that are exclusive to SuperMac Thunder Graphics cards. These controls include the ability to enable/disable the on-board GWorld Memory
GWorld Control
On-board GWorld activation is controlled by clicking on the “G” in the main SuperVideo CDEV . This action displays the GWorld Controls.
This panel displays the current status of the on-board GWorld memory and the amount of GWorld memory installed on the SuperMac Thunder Graphics Card.
GWorld status is controlled by clicking on the GWorld icon. Once the GWorld memory has been installed and activated, applications will create their GWorlds in on-board memory, providing sufficient space is available.
Any change to the GWorld Activation status does not take effect until the Macintosh is restarted.
General SuperVideo Changes
•SuperVideo uses a color icon at startup and on the System 7.0 desktop.
Note: If the SuperVideo icon is not in color on the System 7.0 desktop, the desktop file should be rebuilt.
•To disable SuperVideo at startup, depress the mouse button while the Macintosh is booting. This action prevents SuperVideo from loading.
•If there is no SuperMac Graphics Card installed in the system, the SuperVideo icon will be displayed at startup with an “X” through the icon and SuperVideo will not load.
•The zooming icon in SuperVideo has been changed to the icon displayed below. When clicking on this icon, all panning, zooming and virtual desktop options supported by the SuperMac graphics card are displayed.
•The default key sequence has been changed from [Command - Option- ‘key’] to [Control - ‘key’] to avoid interfering with System 7.0 Finder key shortcuts.
•The Acceleration icons have been changed to the icons displayed below:
Graphics Acceleration Off Graphics Acceleration On
•The Caps Lock Acceleration control icons have been changed to the icons displayed below:
Caps Lock Control On Caps Lock Control Off
•Quick Panning has replaced the Hand Panning feature for new graphics boards. The Quick Panning option allows users to precisely place the visible desktop in Virtual Desktop or Zoomed situations. Quick Panning is activated by a user defined key sequence (Default: Control - Spacebar). Once the key sequence is pressed, the screen pans from the location of the cursor in the opposite direction than the mouse movement. Older boards continue to use the Hand Panning option. SuperVideo displays the appropriate panning options for the SuperMac Graphics card selected in the main screen.
•The Locked Menu Bar feature has been removed.
•The Convergence Test has been removed.
•SuperVideo is not compatible with A/UX, Apple’s implementation of the UNIX operating system. If A/UX is running, SuperVideo does not load and the SuperVideo icon does not appear in the control panel.
•Dialog Centering works under System 7.0. Note: Some applications and some Finder dialog positions are not changeable. In these cases, SuperVideo passes the dialogs through without changing their position. This means that even though SuperVideo is set to Center Dialogs to Cursor, or Center Dialogs to Screen, the dialog may appear at a specific position controlled by the application or the System Software.
•The ability to set the debugger monitor has been removed. Use Monitors to set the debugger monitor and to position multiple monitors.
Aldus Persuasion™ - Users of Aldus Persuasion™ who use a large monitor, and/or many colors, and find that transition effects are not working, will need to raise the application’s memory allocation. Select the Aldus Persuasion™ icon, and select “Get Info” from the file menu. In the lower right-hand corner of the reulting window, type a number that is significantly higher than the number that was there before. Close the “…Info” window, and launch the app.
The Caps Lock key can toggle acceleration off and on in SuperVideo, and also toggles transition effects off and on in Aldus Persuasion™ . Persuasion™ users who want to turn off acceleration in SuperVideo without changing transition effects should open the SuperVideo control panel , ensure the Caps Lock control is OFF and toggle acceleration off and on by clicking on the Acceleration icon.
